Go go gadget green thumb

Today’s experiment, planting seeds in egg shells. I’ve been seeing this on other blogs and all over Pinterest. Apparently the decomposing egg-shell makes excellent fertilizer. So I decided that I had to do this with my kinders.

Step one was colouring our thumbs green, for good luck of course. Step two was cracking a bunch of eggs so that we had shells to work with. Breaking the eggs was by far the most popular part of the experiment. We lost a few shells and ended up with a big bowl of egg goop that I plan to make a killer omelet with. All in all, the kinders had a blast. We hope to see some red sunflowers popping up soon!

Can someone get me some toilet paper, please?!?

During circle the other day the kinders and I were talking about how we help our families out at home. One said that they help do the dishes, another said I clean up my toys. When it got to my sons turn he said, I get the toilet paper and pads for my mommy. Thank goodness he was in my little classroom setting when he said this because I must have went about 50 shades of red! Oh how I love my son, he never fails to surprise/amaze me. The other children laughed about his toilet paper comment and clearly had no idea about feminine products at the age of four and five, thank goodness!

My kiddos and I have the habit of leaving the door open while we are using the bathroom, honestly my kiddos burst right in anyhow so why not? I never think to check the toilet paper before sitting down on the throne though (hahaha sorry had to) and the feminine products are way back in the cupboard. So, I got into the habit of yelling for the kiddos to help me out because I often find the toilet paper roll empty. It’s usually always my boy who is eager to help out, bless his little soul. It makes him feel important when he has little jobs to do. After he shared his comment during our circle though I’ve decided to start checking for TP before I pee pee 🙂

E and I worked on a chore chart today, check out the second last chore he chose to do. I wonder what he tells his teacher.

Liebster Award

I’m very excited to have been nominated for the Liebster Award by a fellow blogger. Thank you Suzanne for nominating me.  I’m happy you enjoy reading my blog! Go check her blog out, sentiments of a working mom. You won’t regret it!

4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.

5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1000 followers. (Note that you can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a widget that lets the readers know this information!)

8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)

Here are the questions that sentiments of a working mom asked me…

1. What is the last store you shopped at? (don’t count grocery stores) The last store I shopped at was Green Gables, a cute little shop full of home decor, garden accessories and children’s toys.

2. What is the story of your name? When I was a teenager I often felt very out of touch with reality due to my undiagnosed anxiety. I spent a lot of time thinking about how life would be as a mermaid. Now that I’m an adult I still have a fascination with mermaids.

3. If you could own a wild animal as a pet, what kind of animal would you choose? I would own a zebra. Exotic yet shy just like me 🙂

4. What were you doing when you found out about 9/11? I was sitting in my grade ten math class, it was announced over the PA systemAt the time I didn’t realize the impact of what had happened but I knew that it was intense,

5. Who are some of your celebrity crushes? Hmmm tough, I like musicians. Luke Bryan is completely gorgeous and so talented. A lot of those country men  are hotties. My all time crush though is Dallas Green, he has always intrigued me!

6. Who was your last hug from and when was it? My last hug was actually a double hug from my daughter and son. They were laying together at bed time tonight so I went in for the smother.

7. If you had to live somewhere else then you do now, what city would you move to? I would likely move to Kingston, Ontario, It’s not very large, it’s only about an hour from my family and it has a great vibe.

8. How many of the 7 Dwarves can you name off the top of your head? Bashful, Dopey, Sneezy, Doc, Grumpy, Happy?

9. What was your favorite childhood toy? I loved Barbie dolls! I could spend an entire day locked up in my room playing Barbie.

10. What is one movie you think everyone should see? This one is tricky, honestly I’m not a huge movie watcher. I honestly love the movie Beaches, it has such a positive message despite how cheesy it is.

11. What is something you find to be inspirational? I’m inspired by artists in general, whether it be a musician, poet, writer or painter. It takes bravery to put yourself out there and have people critique your work.

11 Random facts about me:

1. I have a sweet tooth, like I love sweets!! I’m not a big fan of candy but anything chocolate floats my boat.

2. I worked as a make-up artist briefly for a photographer. I gained some experience and would love to take some classes.

3. I participated in an art project which is hopefully going to be published as a book one day. It was a photo shoot that exposed the baggage that we all carry around with us daily. It was a nude photo shoot.

4. I hope to have a sleeve tattooed on my left arm at some point in my life. I want it to based on the life of a mermaid.

5. I look up to my older sister more than she will ever know. My family doesn’t do mush, I swear I am the odd ball out.

6. I’ve never actually met my biological father, probably why I am the odd ball out in my family.

7. I work at the school where my children go. It has been the best and the worst experience of my life.

8. During the summer I run a day camp. I feel kind of old to be a camp leader but oh goodness it’s fun.

9. I used to believe in psychics but I’m not sure I do anymore.

10. I was “fired” by my counselor after only a handful of sessions. Apparently I have my shit together and she didn’t see the need for me to see a counselor anymore.

11. The reason I have my shit together is because I have two amazing children that deserve the world and the best the version of a mom I can be!

Kinder gardening

Here’s an update on our classroom garden project. To see the beginning click here. The children were really excited to see that our geranium slip had bloomed. However, no root system yet. Our cucumbers are doing great but looking a bit root bound. I need an indoor garden solution as we don’t have an outdoor space to use. The sunflowers are the biggest hit. The children can’t wait to give them to their moms for mother’s day in a few weeks.

I’m loving this experience with the children. Gardening has become a big interest of mine lately. I just planted some pansies in my own personal garden at home. Not only has this project been a learning experience for the children but it has also been a learning experience for myself.

Captain Asshat and the d-bags

Alright, I know I’m probably starting to sound like a bitter chick on a rant.. truth be told I really do think great guys exist. I just happen to interact with the cream of the crop. The d-bags as I like to call them.
imageThe hot mess is now being promoted to Captain Asshat! The winner above all others that I have dated since my last serious relationship. It’s been at least a year since he and I have actually seen or talked to each other. So, I was taken back when he messaged me out of the blue the other day. You can read about the first message in my previous blog post. I ignored the message assuming that he would get my message loud and clear.

However, the next day I received two more messages. The first one said, I heard you moved to a small town, its beautiful there. The second said, I hope your kids are well, it’s been a while. Have you heard of money for life from Sunlife Financial?

1) Don’t bring my children up in your message when you are clearly trying to sell me insurance.

2) Holy balls! What about I’m sorry for the way things ended Tiff, would you like to try to be friends?

Come on boys, did your parents not raise you with social skills? I mean at least butter me up a bit before you try to go in for the sale. It’s taken everything in me to not message The hot mess back to tell him what an asshat he is! I don’t want to validate his message in any kind of way though. I mean I would be curious to know what exactly one is thinking when they message an ex to sell them a Sunlife package. I probably wouldn’t get the answer though.

I’ve decided that I am just going to laugh about it and pray for him. Obviously, The hot mess is a mess! Maybe I’ll write feminist comics about the adventures of Captain Asshat and the d-bags. I could have all kinds of super powers like see right through you vision and expose you as a d-bag radar to name a few. Wishful thinking 🙂

Sparkly new running shoes

Sunday morning, I woke up in time to have a few minutes of me time! Peace and quiet. I watch my children sleep and hope they wake up with a positive attitude to start the day.

We had a good chat last night about feelings and appreciation. I felt really sad after leaving our shopping trip feeling unappreciated. The tattered old slipper will explain more in-depth how I felt.

After our shop hopping experience I asked both of my kiddos to spend some time in their own rooms. We all needed time to think about our actions and I needed a moment to feel upset. After our calm down time I talked to each of my kiddos one-on-one. We came to the conclusion that we need to be a team not just mom vs. the world.

As a mom I can only hope that our little chat made a big impact. We had family night last night without television or friends joining us, which was what we needed. We played crazy 8’s and read books until both kiddos were fast asleep in their book nook.

imageI gladly report that both of my kiddos woke up in a happy, positive mood. E went to work feeding the cats and S cleaned out the book nook. Both kiddos helped me make breakfast and clean up after we were finished.

Today I feel like a sparkly new pair of running shoes, possibly even a cute pair of heels.
